Chinelo Awa, Good Cake Day

Luxury Cake designer, Chinelo Awa on Identity, Change and Hope

This week, Chinelo Awa, luxury cake designer and founder of Good Cake Day talks to our founder, Sotonye, about self care, identity and bringing hope to a hurting world.

For me, self care is so important. It’s about creating a place of safety, peace, joy and rest. Recently, I’ve been working on my ideal self care routine. It involves a good diet, regular exercise, yoga, doing things I love like mani pedis and spending time in the grandeur of nature. My favourite self care secrets would be running, Yoga, a full body massage and mani pedis.

It’s so important to evolve and allow ourselves to embrace change.

We’ve seen so much change in the past few years that it’s become an inevitable part of our lives. Initially, I tend to be resistant to change, but then I go with the flow. I’m learning that giving in to change is more peaceful than resisting change. It’s so important to evolve and allow ourselves to embrace change. In the last few years I feel like I’ve grown in empathy and I am developing a sense of purpose.

My dream is that in some way I can bring hope to a hurting world.

For me, Community is a safe space where a group of people with a common goal can coexist. I love my friends! They’re my tribe - such a diverse group of people that I respect and love, and each one is inspiring in a unique way.

I’d describe my heritage as Igbo, from the South East of Nigeria. I’m still working on who I am, but I’d say that I am an empath who is happy go lucky, driven, dogged, creative, funny, loyal, and charismatic. My dream is that in some way I can bring hope to a hurting world by making people feel beautiful, loved and uniquely human.
